Søgårdsskolen es una escuela de educación especial de enseñanza primaria y secundaria (situada en Gentofte, al norte de Copenhague) con una gran diversidad de niños que a menudo tienen necesidades muy contradictorias en materia de espacio. Con el fin de satisfacer todas estas necesidades diferentes, la escuela ha sido recientemente reformada.

In the primary and lower secondary school Søgårdsskolen in Gentofte north of Copenhagen Bosch & Fjord have turned an open corridor space and common area into a space for learning and reflection. A small stylised forest now offers a space for individual students as well as larger groups in and outside classroom activities.
Søgårdsskolen is a special-needs school with a wide diversity of children who often have very contradictory needs in terms of the spatial environment. In order to meet these needs the school was recently renovated.
In an attempt to activate the inherent possibilities that the building offers Bosch & Fjord designed an open corridor space and common area to better accommodate the children’s diversity in terms of development, age, personality and needs. The design consists of a small stylised forest with large green trees on a podium.

En la escuela de enseñanza primaria y secundaria Søgårdsskolen (situada en Gentofte, al norte de Copenhague) Bosch & Fjord han transformado un convencional vestíbulo en un interesante espacio para el aprendizaje y la reflexión. Un pequeño bosque estilizado ofrece ahora un espacio para ser utilizado por los estudiantes, de forma individual o en grupo, fuera de las actividades de clase.
Søgårdsskolen es una escuela de educación especial con una gran diversidad de niños que a menudo tienen necesidades muy contradictorias en materia de espacio. Con el fin de satisfacer todas estas necesidades diferentes, la escuela ha sido recientemente reformada.
Tratando de potenciar las posibilidades inherentes que el edificio ofrecía, Bosch & Fjord han diseñado un espacio abierto y común que pueda acomodar a todos los niños, en términos de desarrollo, edad, personalidad y necesidades. El diseño se basa en un pequeño bosque estilizado realizado con grandes árboles verdes sobre un podio, que ofrece a los niños un espacio para el juego y la reflexión silenciosa de forma conjunta o individual.
El bosque está diseñado para ser un elemento activo dentro del proceso de aprendizaje de los niños. Pequeños lugares de reunión se localizan entre los troncos de los árboles, en los que los niños pueden jugar juntos o estudiar con un profesor. También hay pequeños rincones en los que os niños pueden retirarse y esconderse. El bosque se coloca en un podio, lo que interrumpe el flujo de corredor y crea un obstáculo natural para el funcionamiento en el pasillo. El podio tiene una superficie suave, que requiere que los niños y adultos se quiten los zapatos antes de entrar en el bosque. Eso crea una sensación de ambiente íntimo y acogedor.
Los árboles estilizados dan el espacio una clara identidad y funcionalidad, alentando una gran variedad de actividades y enfoques educativos, y creando un sentimiento de comunidad.
El bosque se ha convertido en el nuevo corazón del edificio. Ha transformado el vestíbulo inicial en una parte activa de las actividades diarias y en un lugar de encuentro natural para los usuarios cotidianos de la escuela.

The forest is designed to be an active element in the children’s learning processes. The trees form little meeting places under the tree crowns, where the children can play together or study with a teacher. They also create small individual spaces where the children can retreat and hide behind a tree or spend some alone-time, leaning against the tree trunk. The forest is placed on a podium, which interrupts the corridor flow and creates a natural obstacle to running in the hallway. The podium has a soft surface, which requires children and adults to remove their shoes before entering the forest. That creates a sense of intimacy and homeliness.
The stylised trees give the space a clear identity and function, which encourages a wide variety of activities and educational approaches and builds a sense of community. The new setting gives the teachers in the school excellent conditions for trying out different educational approaches.
The forest has become the new heart and centre of the building. It turns the open corridor space and common area into an active part of everyday activities and a natural meeting place for the everyday users of the school.
