El Centro Botín es la iniciativa más ambiciosa de la Fundación Botín, un centro de arte, creatividad y de estudio de las emociones. El proyecto del Centro es obra del arquitecto Renzo Piano y parte del mismo es la remodelación de los antiguos Jardines de Pereda. La relación del Centro y la ciudad con el mar es el elemento clave del proyecto es por eso que cuando comenzamos a diseñar la zona de juegos de los jardines pensamos en la abstracción de una ola gigante penetrando desde la Bahía en la ciudad.

The Botín Centre is the most ambitious project from the Botín Foundation, a centre for art, creativity and the study of emotions. The project is the work of architect Renzo Piano and part of it includes the remodeling of the old Pereda gardens.

The relationship of the centre with the city and the sea is a key element of the project, which is why when we started to design a play area in the gardens we thought of an abstract giant wave entering from the bay of the city.

El Centro Botín es la iniciativa más ambiciosa de la Fundación Botín, un centro de arte, creatividad y de estudio de las emociones. El proyecto del Centro es obra del arquitecto Renzo Piano y parte del mismo es la remodelación de los antiguos Jardines de Pereda. La relación del Centro y la ciudad con el mar es el elemento clave del proyecto es por eso que cuando comenzamos a diseñar la zona de juegos de los jardines pensamos en la abstracción de una ola gigante penetrando desde la Bahía en la ciudad.

La zona infantil ocupa 800 m2 de los Jardines y es una gran abstracción del mar y la playa, por lo que todos los juegos simbolizan algún elemento marino.

En el laberinto de algas los niños pueden testar su equilibrio y pericias sobre las cuerdas. En el mar de esponjas los más pequeños pueden saltar, perseguirse o tocar distintas texturas. 

En las dunas el suelo se convierte en un juego más proponiendo topografías escalables. Y en la ola, una escultura gigante de acero y cuerda los mayores pueden realizar todo tipo de circuitos de escalada, columpios, equilibrio o deslizamientos.

The kid´s area consists of 800 m2 in the gardens and is massive abstract sea and beach, all the elements symbolize a marine element.

In the seaweed maze children can test their balance and ability on rope. Younger children can jump, chase each other and touch different textures in the sponge sea. On the dunes the floor becomes another game with climbable typography. And in the wave, a giant steel and rope sculpture the adults can climb, swing, balance and slide too.

Part of this project is the collaboration with E.on, the energy company, for whom we have designed a merry-go-round/buoy that teaches kids how energy produces electricity. The kids movement powers the light on the buoy.
