El solar de partida, situado en el barrio de Skanderborggade (Copenhague), estaba rodeado por edificios de cinco plantas y un patio interior estrecho con escasa iluminación natural. La normativa urbanística de esta zona demandaba un nuevo centro de día que tuviera como máximo la altura de una planta, mientras que las necesidades de la guardería exigían un espacio al aire libre casi igual a la de la zona del edificio actual. La estrategia de diseño fue maximizar la iluminación natural de los diferentes espacios, situando la zona de juegos al aire libre en la cubierta del edificio y creando varios patios que iluminan las estancias del interior.
Situated within the Skanderborggade/ Krausevej block, the site is surrounded by 5-storey buildings and a narrow inner courtyard with little to almost no daylight. The zoning regulations for the site required the new day-care to be a maximum of one-storey, while the daycare needed an outdoor space almost equal to that of the actual building area. The design therefore, maximizes the sites daylighting and challenges the zoning regulations by placing the outdoor play area on the roof the day-care centre and cutting light wells into the various indoor spaces.

El solar de partida, situado en el barrio de Skanderborggade (Copenhague), estaba rodeado por edificios de cinco plantas y un patio interior estrecho con escasa iluminación natural. La normativa urbanística de esta zona demandaba un nuevo centro de día que tuviera como máximo la altura de una planta, mientras que las necesidades de la guardería exigían un espacio al aire libre casi igual a la de la zona del edificio actual. La estrategia de diseño fue maximizar la iluminación natural de los diferentes espacios, situando la zona de juegos al aire libre en la cubierta del edificio y creando varios patios que iluminan las estancias del interior.
El edificio se compone de dos planos plegados que se extienden hasta los límites del solar. El inferior conforma un nuevo plano del suelo y el superior da forma a la cubierta y el área de juegos al aire libre. Ambos planos se relacionan mediante una gran rampa, cuya pendiente sigue la trayectoria del sol en verano (desde el noreste hacia el noroeste), ofreciendo una ótima exposición a todo el edificio. Debajo, un bosque de columnas organiza un espacio sin calefacción que se utiliza durante el tiempo húmedo.

The lower plane forms a new ground covering the contaminated soil, and the upper plane forms the roof and outdoor play area. Melded together by a large fold, the slope follows the path of the summer sun from the northeast to the northwest offering the best sun exposure throughout the site. Underneath, a forest of columns fills an unheated space used during wet weather.
